Installing Hardware and Configuring Connectivity
# F5U021 Four Port Hub or equivalent) along with a non-powered USB modem (for example,
MultiTech Model # MT5634ZBA-USB-V92 V.92 Data/Fax World Modem or equivalent).

Software Installation

The software packages for the MPS 500 are pre installed at the factory. Information about installing
additional MPS 500 packages is contained in the Installing MPS Software on the Solaris Platform or
Installing MPS Software on the Windows Platform manuals.

Installing the MPS Manager Workstation

The MPS Manager workstation provides a graphical management environment that integrates all
the DTCs in the MPS 500 installation into a single system view. In most cases, a single MPS
Manager workstation is used to control and administer an entire set of MPS 500 systems. More than
one MPS Manager workstation can be configured to support either separate control and
administration domains or a duplicate control point. In networked configurations, regardless of
networking arrangements, MPS Manager functions as a separate workstation.
Note:
Avaya recommends a standalone MPS Manager workstation upgrade for systems where the
administrative interface is not in the same location as the MPS 500. In cases where the
administrative station is not in the same location as the application processor controlling the
MPS 500, the keyboard, monitor, and mouse are replaced with an additional Ethernet LAN for
connection to a remotely located workstation.
Whenever resources permit, install and use a dedicated workstation to perform MPS Manager
functions. By using a separate workstation, you increase configuration flexibility, and you can
manage and administer the network remote from the MPS 500 systems.

Single-Site Installations

The following diagram shows the most common configuration and forms the basis for most other
network configurations. In a single-site installation, all the MPS 500 systems and the associated
MPS Manager workstation are located at the same physical site. Ensure that MPS Manager and the
MPS 500 systems are located within the LAN distance limits (that is, approximately 1000 feet or 300
meters).
