ALTERNATOR /STARTER CLUTCH
RECOIL STARTER
REMOVAL
Remove the right side cover (page 3·5 ).
Remove the following:
- fou r bol ts and clamp
- recoil startP.f assembly
STARTER ROPE REPLACEMENT
Carefully release t he pulley and check the recoil
~
starter for smooth operation by pulling the g rip.
Rope ends:

Pull the starter rope tully to align the rope holes in
the drive pu lley and hou sing, and secu re the pulley
with a vise pliers o r equivalent tool to prevent the
pulley from rewi nding.
Untie the starter ro pe and remove the rope.
Inser t a new starter ro pe throug h t he pulley, hous-
ing and grip, and t ie the rope endsin a square knot.
Set the p ull ey side rope end into the cav ity as
shown.

Heorace the recoil
Untie the starter rope and remove the starter grip to
stsner

release the starter rope slowly w hile holding the

drive pu lley.
Rem ove the center
bolt (TJO),
and fr icti o n p late and
sp ring.
Remove the
ratchet and spring.
