10 Check for a loose ignition control module ground. Refer
to Electrical Ignition System.

11 Monitor "Long Term Fuel Trim" on the Tech 2.
Is "Long Term Fuel Trim" in the negative range (rich
condition)?
12 Check the items that can cause the engine to run rich.
Refer to Diagnostic Aids in DTC P0172.
Was a problem found?
13 Is "Long Term Fuel Trim" significantly in the positive
range (lean condition)?

14 Check items that can cause the engine to run leading.
Refer to "Diagnostic Aids" in DTC P0171.
Was a problem found?
15 Check the injector connections. If any of the injectors
are connected to an incorrect cylinder, correct as
necessary.

16 Perform the Injector Coil/Balance Test.
Was a problem found?
17 1. Check the following engine mechanical problems:
f
Low compression
f
Leaking cylinder head gasket
f
Worn or incorrect camshaft
f
Sticking or leaking valves
f
Valve timing
f
Broken valve springs
f
Camshaft drive belt slipped or stripped.
Was a problem found?
18 1. Check for faulty motor mounts. Refer to Engine
Mechanical for inspection of mounts.
2. If a problem is found, repair as necessary.

19 1. Review all diagnostic procedures within this table.
2. If all procedures have been completed and no
malfunctions have been found, review/inspect the
following:

Visual/physical inspection

Tech 2 data
f
Freeze Frame data/Failure Records buffer

All electrical connections within a suspected
circuit and/or system
