Doppler

A Doppler-effect generator is integrated to the test modulator.
Rate is configurable between 0 and 100 kHz/s
Range is configurable between 0 and 2 MHz
The "shape" of Doppler can be chosen between a Triangle, a sinusoid or an arctangent
function. It also can be customized thanks to an editable File.
Depending on the firmware, it can also be configured to be identical or independent on both IFs (IF1
and IF2) of the Unit.

Modulation of external data

Direct input to the modulator

3.6.4.1.1

Principle

The test modulator enables direct modulation of incoming data over SMA connectors J52 to J56. The
electrical standard is single ended ECL or differential ECL depending on the chosen option at
purchase.

When the board is fitted with single-ended ECL two different input modes are supported:
Hard Symbol mode: in this mode, each ECL connector is linked to a bit of the resulting
symbol. Typical schemes are I/Q in QPSK, and IQZ in 8PSK. The symbol rate is the input clock
rate, and the modulation is set in the modulating unit linked to the format input unit.
Data mode: in this mode, the alignment of the symbol with respect to the data is not
guaranteed. This enables to use various input parallelisms with all supported modulations (for
example split 2 in 8PSK). Data can be input using parallelism 1 (Serial), 2, 3 and 4. The overall
raw data rate is obtained by multiplying the input clock rate by the selected parallelism.
