SCPI Error Messages

The Keysight instrument returns error messages in accord with the SCPI standard.
Up to 20 errors can be stored in each interface-specific error queue (one each for GPIB, USB, VXI-
l
11, and Telnet/Sockets.) Errors appear in the error queue of the I/O session that caused the error.
The instrument beeps each time a command syntax or hardware error is generated. The front-
l
panel ERROR annunciator turns on when one or more errors are in the error queue.
A special global error queue holds all power-on and hardware-related errors (for example, over-
l
temperature).
Error retrieval is first-in-first-out (FIFO), and errors are cleared as you read them. Once you have
l
read all interface-specific errors, the errors in the global error queue are retrieved. When you have
read all errors from the error queue, the ERR annunciator turns off.
If more than 20 errors have occurred, the last error stored in the queue (the most recent error) is
l
replaced with -350,"Error queue overflow". No additional errors are stored until you remove errors
from the queue. If no errors have occurred, the instrument responds with +0,"No error".
The front panel reports errors from all I/O sessions and the global error queue. To read the error
l
queue from the front panel, press the ERROR key.
Error conditions are also summarized in the Status Byte Register. See
l
duction.
The interface-specific error queues are cleared by power cycles and *CLS. The error queue is not
l
cleared by *RST.
The SYSTem:ERRor? query reads and clears one error from the error queue. Errors have the fol-
l
lowing format -113,"Undefined header". The error string may contain up to 255 characters.
Error List
Device-dependent Errors (these errors set Standard Event Status register bit #3)
0 No error
This is the response to the ERR? query when there are no errors.
100 Too many channels
You have specified more channels than are installed in the mainframe
101 Calibration state is off
Calibration is not enabled. The instrument will not accept calibration commands.
102 Calibration password is incorrect
The calibration password is incorrect.
103 Calibration is inhibited by switch setting
