10.1.4 Format diskette

Use this option to format diskettes for use with the MP2500. As the MP2500
diskette format is entirely standard, you only really need to use this option to
create a bootable MP2500 diskette i.e. a diskette with the special MP2500
IO.SYS file on it. You can then use it to boot a unit that won't boot from its
internal drive (e.g. if the boot tracks get deleted or corrupted). (You can also
use the H
USKY
described in chapter 10.3.1.)
Note: Do not use a PC generated boot disk, as this will not contain the
special MP2500 files.
To format an MP2500 bootable diskette:
1. Connect the unit's serial port to a serial port on a PC, using a standard
"crossed" (null modem) cable.
2. Run the ORACLE utility on the PC to make it share its A drive. (See
section 10.3 for details). Set the Baud rate to 19,200 Baud by using the
/19200 switch.
3. Insert the diskette to format in the PC's A drive.
4. Run UTIL and select the Format diskette option and this screen will
be displayed:
5. Use G or H to set the Density to 1.44Mb.
6. Use I or J to select the Drive option, then use G or H to set it to
A: or B:.
7. Use I or J to select the Write system files option, then use G
or H to set it to Yes.
