9.2 Diagnosing and Solving Problems

There are two main classes of problem that you might have.
The first class consists of problems which the MP2500 reports to you, by
displaying an error message, a short description of the problem. For
example, Insufficient disk space means that there is not enough
space on the disk for an operation.
This class of problems should be quite easy to handle. The error messages
produced by MS-DOS are described most MS-DOS user guides. The error
messages produced by the special MP2500 utilities are described in the
chapters about those utilities. The error messages from third party
applications will of course not be included in this guide - see the
application's own guides for details.
The second class of problems are those that are not accompanied by an
error message. You realise that there's a problem because the MP2500
doesn't do what the user wants, or does something that the user doesn't
want.
Always check that the user has followed the instructions for their application
first, to make sure that the error is not theirs.
Problems of this type which may arise with a standard system include:
Symptom
Won't power
up
Screen blank
or all dark
Chapter 9: Troubleshooting
Cause - remedy
AC adaptor disconnected or faulty and no internal
batteries or batteries discharged.
- Recharge or replace as described in section 8.2, then
try again. If this does not work, either the batteries or
the AC adaptor have failed; contact your local
representative.
The LCD contrast is incorrectly set - particularly likely at
temperature extremes.
- Hold down S and press G or H until the LCD
Screen contents become visible.
