13. Introduction to Communications

This chapter provides an introduction to communications and serial
interfacing, and
handshaking, cabling and other aspects of setting up the serial port.
For information on using communications, see Chapter 14. For details of
programming with communications, see Part 3. For more details of the
communications options available, see Chapter 15 or contact your supplier.

13.1 Introduction

Communications facilities are especially important for portable computers,
because they often rely on communications to exchange information or
programs with remote computer systems.
The MP2500 is equipped as standard with a single industry-standard
RS232/V24 serial port (Port 1), permanently assigned as COM2.
