12.8 Error Messages

The simplest error message is:
beep
You have typed an illegal answer to a prompt, or used a command when it
is not valid, such as deleting when in BROWSE mode, or typed an
unrecognised command, such as Ctrl+B.
ED displays error messages on the last line. They are as follows:
Browse mode only
You have attempted to edit a file after loading it with the browse option
(/BROWSE). If you want to edit it, EXIT, then repeat the ED command but
without the /BROWSE option.
Copy invalid: cursor within block
You have tried to copy a block into itself. Move the cursor outside the block
and try again.
Disk full... file truncated
There was not enough room to fit the whole file on the specified disk, so
only part of it has been written. If you want to save the whole file, either use
another disk, or delete some files first (using DELETE FILE).
Disk read failed
ED could not read the disk; it may be corrupt or not ready.
Disk read incomplete- file too big
There is insufficient room in memory to load the entire specified file, so as
much as would fit into memory has been loaded. You may now edit this part
of the file as long as your edits do not increase its size, but when you SAVE
it, specify a new filename or you will overwrite the original file, losing that
part which did not load. (To load the entire file, try increasing the free DOS
memory, for example by reducing the BUFFERS or FILES parameters in
CONFIG.SYS and rebooting.)
Disk write failed
ED could not write to the disk. For example, there may already be a write-
protected file with the specified name, or the drive may not be ready. Press
C to abort the command and continue using ED.
