only be able to output data while using it, by using the application's 'printing'
options. This will normally be output via COM2, as described earlier. While
you could use this to print results on a suitable printer, there's nothing to
stop you connecting COM2 to another computer system which requires the
information.
By default, when you reboot, MP2500 communications will be installed. To
use IBM communications simply select it before running the application (eg
by using UTIL).
If you need to input files, or output files in formats not supported by the
application's print option, you can use the standard MS-DOS facilities
described in section 14.4.

14.9 Using MS-DOS communications packages

A number of third party communications packages are available for the IBM
PC and compatibles. These typically offer very high data rates via direct
connections (cables), convenient menu-driven interfaces and automatic
operation, including error-handling.
Some of these packages are appropriate to use with the MP2500, but
because they are written for standard IBM PC hardware, they will not use
any of the special facilities provided by MP2500 communications. They also
may not work reliably at speeds greater than 9,600 Baud. If you are at all
unsure whether a package will work, ask your supplier.

14.10 File transfers

The MP2500 uses the industry-standard RS232 interface and supports the
common XON-XOFF protocol and a wide range of baud rates and data
formats, so it can communicate with a wide range of computers, including
microcomputer systems such as the IBM PC. Optional protocols and
internal upgrades extend this range even further.
If the other system does not support 8-bit communications, to transfer
binary data you must use a communications application.
