12.5 Editing screen

The normal mode for the LCD displays 8 lines of 40 characters, but the 60
option displays 10 lines of 60 characters.
On entry to ED (in the normal 40-character mode), if the specified file does
not already exist, the screen will look like this:
The top line is the Status Line. It contains the following information:
c:filename.ext
INS:ON
CAPS:OFF
COL:001
Column 1 is the left of the virtual screen. Column 255 is the extreme right of
the virtual screen.
94
This shows the name of the file you are editing.
This shows whether character insert is on or off.
If insert is on, any text typed will be inserted at the
cursor position and any text already present will
move to make room.
With insert off, the display will show:
INS:OFF
In this case, typing will overwrite existing text.
This shows the state of the CAPS LOCK function.
Note: In CAPS LOCK mode, alphabetic keys type
capitals unless used with S, when they type
lowercase letters. This is NOT a 'Shift Lock' function.
This shows the column of the virtual screen which
the cursor is in. It is in the range 1 to 255. As the
cursor moves, it is kept updated and may be used
for aligning tables, indents in text, etc.
