INFICON
Symptom
An air peak is present on
blank injection
There is a significant
negative baseline, but
peaks still appear
There is poor separation
resulting in partial or full
co-elution of desired
compounds
074-594-P1H Micro GC Fusion Operating Manual
Possible sources of error
The column head pressure
method parameter is set too low.
The carrier gas pressure is too
low.
There is an internal leak.
The reference column is
damaged.
There is contamination in the
system.
The Column Temperature and
Column Pressure method
parameters are not optimized.
There is a malfunction in the
detector.
There is a malfunction in the
column.
The column has degraded due
to age or exposure to liquids,
contaminants, or reactive
compounds.
Remedy
increase Column Temperature. An increase
in column temperature will change
component retention times.
• The sampling device of sample filters may be
contaminated. Clean or replace the sampling
device or filter.
• Verify that the column head pressure method
parameter is above 15 psi. Insufficient carrier
gas pressure may prevent the inject valve
from sealing fully, creating an air leak.
• Verify that there is sufficient carrier gas
pressure from the cylinder. Carrier gas inlet
pressure must be between 400-427 kPa
(58-62 psi) CAUTION! Exceeding 565 kPA
(82 psi) may damage Micro GC Fusion and
require factory repair.
• Contact INFICON. See Service and
Technical Support [} 299].
• Check the flow coming out of the reference
vents.
• If there is no flow, contact INFICON. See
Service and Technical Support [} 299].
• Conduct a bakeout to clean the columns.
Refer to Bakeout from System Status
[} 252].
• Reduce the Column Temperature and/or
Column Pressure to achieve better
separation.
• Contact INFICON. See Service and
Technical Support [} 299].
• Check the flow coming out of the analytical
and reference vents
• If there is no flow from either or both vents,
contact INFICON. See Service and
Technical Support [} 299].
