Always turn the ignition switch to " OFF" before servidng the starter motor. The motor cou ld suddenly stll rt, causing seri-
ous injury.
Wlu,in checking the starter system, always follow the steps in the troubleshooting f low chart (page
18-2).

wel'tk battery may be unoble to turn the sta rter motor qui ckly enough, or supply adequate ignition current.
If the current is kept flowing through the starter motor to
h1rn
it wh ile the engine is not cranking over, the storter motor
m ay be d«rnaged.
