Communication ports

The HydroRanger 200 HMI comes with two communications ports on the base unit.

The RS-232 port is not intended for connection to a network (bus). Use it

only for direct connection to a laptop, PC, or modem.
The RJ-11 jack connects to a laptop computer for the following:
Initial setup
Configuration
Troubleshooting
Periodic maintenance
Firmware updates
RS-485
The RS-485 port on the terminal blocks connects into industrial communications wiring
and has the following advantages:
Runs communications cable farther
Allows multiple slave units on the network, addressed by parameter

Modbus
The Modbus protocol is supported in the base unit and can be configured using the

parameters on page 195.
To set up communications with a Modbus RTU master device on Port 2 using RS-485, set
the following parameters:
