EVAPORATIVE EMISSION (EVAP) PURGE CONTROL CIRCUIT FAULT
Circuit Description
The engine control
module (ECM) supplies a ground to energize the Evapo-
rative Emission (EVAP) canister purge solenoid valve.
This solenoid valve is Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) or
turned on and off several times a second. The EVAP
canister purge PWM duty cycle varies according to op-
eration conditions determined by mass air temperature.
If the ECM detects open or shorted EVAP canister
control circuits, DTC P0443 will set.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
D Ignition ON.
D Read the fault feedback signal from the output driver
to determine short battery / ground faults.
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) P0443
1.5L SOHC
D Ignition voltage is greater than 11 volts.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
D The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) will illuminate
after three (1.5L SOHC)
consecutive trip with a fail.
D The ECM will record operating conditions at the
time the diagnostic fails. This information will be
stored in the Freeze Frame and Failure Records buff-
ers.
D A history Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) is stored.
