Step
Perform an On-Board Diagnostic (EOBD) System
Check.
1
Is the system check complete?
Turn the ignition switch ON, with the engine OFF.

Is the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) on?
Check for a poor connection at the battery feed
K1 or the ignition feed terminal

K18.
Is a problem found and repaired?
Attempt to start the engine.

Does the engine start?
Check for a faulty
ngine control module (ECM) ground con-
nection at the engine block or ECM connector

ground terminals and repair as necessary.
Is the repair complete?
1. Turn the ignition OFF.
2. Disconnect the ECM connectors from the
ECM.

3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
Is the MIL ON?
Inspect the ignition and the battery feed fuses.

Are the fuses OK?
Check for a poor connection in the battery feed ter-
minal (K1, ignition feed terminal K18, or

the MIL control circuits and repair as necessary.
Is the repair necessary?
Probe the MIL control circuit with a test light con-
nected to ground.

Is the test light illuminated?
1. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
2. Disconnect the ECM connectors from the
ECM.
10 3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
4. Probe the battery feed terminal K1 with a
test light connected to ground.
Does the test light illuminate?
1. Check for a short to ground in the circuit of the
fuse that was open and repair if necessary.

2. Replace the open fuse.
Is the repair complete?
1. Turn the ignition OFF.
12 2. Replace the ECM.
Is the repair complete?
Repair the short to voltage in the MIL control circuit.

Is the repair complete?
Check for an open or a poor connection in the MIL
control circuit and repair as necessary.

Is the repair necessary?
No Malfunction Indicator Lamp
