12.4.3 How to Upgrade Firmware by Serial Connection (Local Download)
This firmware upgrade is performed one by one, connecting a PC to each MG(BRI) with a RS-232C
and a LAN cable. Prepare the following:
- Firmware for upgrade
- RS-232C cable and LAN cable (crossover) are required.
- Serial terminal emulation program (such as HyperTerminal) is required
TFTP Server
Serial Console
Note 1: TFTP server and Serial Console both can be performed by single Personal Computer.
Disconnect the MG(BRI) from the network.
STEP 1
Connect PC(s) to MG(BRI) with LAN connector and RS-232C cable both.
STEP 2
Put the firmware file (mgbri-bsc.bin), checksum file (mgbri-bsccksum), and download list file
STEP 3
(mgbri-boot.dat) for upgrade in the root folder of TFTP server. They are included in SP ver-
sion name folder [e.g. SP3826].
Allow read in this directory. For more information, refer to the appropriate manual attached to
STEP 4
the FTP server program.
Set network environment for the TFTP server.
STEP 5
Start the TFTP program.
STEP 6
Power on MG(BRI).
STEP 7
Activate HyperTerminal and set the following:

Bit per second:9600bps
Data bits:8bit
Parity:None
Stop bit:1bit
Flow control:None
Reboot MG(BRI). (OFF->ON)
STEP 9
At the moment that boot programming is starting (While "Starting MG-BRI boot

program..." is being displayed for approximately five minutes), check version informa-
tion and then press the ESC key.
