Apply grease t o the upper and lower bearings and
bearing races.
Insert the steering stem into the steering head pipe.
Install upper bearing and dust seal.
Apply oil t o the bearing adjustment nut threads.
Install and tighten the stem adjusting nut t o the initial
torque.
TOOL:
Steering stem socket
TORQUE: 40 N-m (4.1 kgf-m,
Move the steering stem right and left, lock-to-lock,
five times t o seat the bearings.
Make sure the steering stem moves smoothly, with-
out play or binding; then loosen the steering stem
adjusting nut.
Retighten the steering stem adjusting nut t o the spec-
ified torque.
TORQUE: 18 (1.8 kgf-m, 13 Ibf-ft)
Recheck that the steering stem moves smoothly with-
