Unshielded Twisted Pair (10BaseT) Connection

Each device in a network installation using UTP cable must be
connected directly to a hub. The maximum length for a UTP cable
connection from device to hub is 328 feet (100 m). Larger networks
are formed by linking hubs together.
UTP cable is the wire used in many telephone installations. The
connectors used for an Ethernet network using UTP cable are RJ-45
plugs, which are similar to, but larger than ordinary telephone jacks .
To connect your controller to a UTP cabled Ethernet network
1.
Turn off the controller.
2.
Plug the transceiver's MAUI connector (fig. 2.19) into the
Ethernet port on the controller.
3.
Plug one end of the UTP cable into the RJ-45 socket on the
transceiver, and plug the other end into the RJ-45 socket on the
network's hub.
4.
Turn on the controller.

Thin Coaxial Cable (10Base2) Connection

Thinnet networks, which use coaxial cable, connect in a daisy-chain
configuration. Each of the two ends of the cable are terminated with
either a 50-Ohm terminating resistor or a self-terminating transceiver
box. The maximum cable length for a network segment is 607 ft.
(185 m). Repeaters, routers, and gateways may be used to increase
the overall length of the network or for connections to other
networks.
