Four common media types are bond paper, polyethylene paper,
polyester film, and specialty type media. Each has advantages and
disadvantages. For example, plain paper is less expensive but lacks
the consistent coverage property of resin-coated stock.
Bond paper is less expensive and more appropriate for spot color
documents such as CAD wire plots. Presentation grade bond works
well for proofing or drawings in progress; however, if you have more
color fills you need the thicker premium bond which can be used for
jobs like maps, flip charts or graphic proofs.
Polyethylene papers include photographic and presentation glossy
and matte formats. The photographic type is thicker and more
durable so it works well for final runs. The presentation type paper is
available with color backgrounds and is used often for marketing
point of purchase signs and courtroom displays.
Polyester film media is used in several ways. One way is for
traditional transparency overheads. Durawhite polyester film
provides a more durable, tear-resistant media, better for heavy duty
work environments such as signs for manufacturing or industrial
sites. Translite film is translucent for use with backlighting such as
for airport or trade show displays.
Specialty media includes unusual media. For example, one such
product is a canvas type media to reproduce realistic looking
portraits and artwork. Another example is vinyl, perfect for banners
or exterior signs; some even feature adhesive backing for easy
mounting.

Setting Variables

The perception of colors by the human eye is partly dependent upon
the setting in which they are viewed. For example, a white shirt
appears white in natural sunlight. However, that same shirt may take
