Selecting an Interface

Once the controller is set up, you need to select an interface to
connect the controller to the printer. Your controller has four
standard interface ports on the back—LocalTalk, serial, parallel, and
Ethernet ports.

LocalTalk
The serial, parallel, LocalTalk, and Ethernet ports are simultaneously
active, which allows you to access the controller through multiple
ports at the same time. The controller prints the first incoming job.
When the first job finishes, the next job (in the order received) prints,
and so forth until all jobs print.
The port you select depends on the type of device (computer or
network), the available computer ports, your software application,
printer drivers, and emulations.
For an Ethernet setup, skip to "Connecting to the Ethernet Port" later
in this chapter. For a PC setup without Ethernet, skip to "Connecting
in a PC Environment" later in this chapter. For a Macintosh setup
without Ethernet, go to the next section, "Connecting in a Macintosh
Environment."
