Error Diffusion

The Error Diffusion options can be set through the PPD or the front
panel (PRINT:SCREEN). This menu allows you to select the type of
screening method used to create the print image. Options are
Printer's default, Spot, X-Screen, Diffuse 1, 2, and 3. The factory
default is Printer's default.
Spot screening uses a clustered dot technique. X-Screening uses a
stochastic, dispersed-dot technique. The Diffuse options allow you to
choose one of three error diffusion filters: Diffuse 1 uses the Floyd
and Steinberg Filter, Diffuse 2 uses the Jarvis, Judice, and Ninke
Filter, and Diffuse 3 uses the Stucki Filter. See "Screening" in
chapter 7 for more information. For a detailed discussion of the error
diffusion algorithms, see R. Ulichney's Digital Halftoning
(Cambridge, MIT Press, 1987).
