Orientation

Four of the five Orientation options can be set through the PPD or
the front panel. The Auto Orient mode must be set up through the
PPD. This menu allows you to select the direction your file prints
across the page (fig. 5.8). Options are Printer's default, Application
Orientation, Portrait/Short Edge, Landscape/Long Edge, and Auto
Orient. The factory default is Printer's default.
Application Orientation directs the controller to use the page
orientation set in the application. For the Portrait/ Short Edge setting,
the controller determines the shortest side of the page and rotates it,
if necessary, to begin the printing at that edge. For the Landscape/
Long Edge setting, the controller determines the longest side of the
page and rotates it, if necessary, to begin printing at that edge. For
the Auto Orient option, the controller first compares the longedge of
the page to the largest media size available on an enabled printer. If
the page is too large to be printed on any of the available media, the
controller rotates the page and prints it short edge first.
Note: Enabling both Auto Orient and Auto Reduce can save time
when printing an image that is larger than the available
media. The controller first uses Auto Orient to try to fit the
image to the available print size. If neither orientation will
print the image, the Auto Reduce feature fits the image to the
print media. The image will be printed short edge first.

Note: To ensure the fastest image processing, set the correct
orientation in the application and use either the same
orientation or the Application Orientation option in the PPD.
