Colorimeter

Colorimeters measure reflected or transmitted light. The colorimeter
then calculates the measurements in terms that compare to a
common standard based on the eye's normal interpretation of red,
blue, and green stimulus under a set light source.

Densitometer

A densitometer produces a set light source and then measures an
entity's (for example, a monitor's or a printer's) ability to transmit or
reflect that light compared to a common standard of density. Higher
densities transmit or reflect less light than lower ones.

Screening

Screening is a printing method that adjusts the placement of dots on
media so that the image is perceived as a continuous expanse of
color rather than a collection of individual dots.
Spot screening is the conventional halftone screening method, also
called amplitude modulation (AM). Dots are laid in a grid pattern
based on the gray level or color tone. The spacing between the dot
centers is constant, but the size (amplitude) of the dots varies to
produce different shades or tones. Because the grids for different
colors are offset at angles, a distinctive rosette pattern is created in
the image.
XANTÉ's X-Screening uses a stochastic, dispersed dot, screening
technique. This is sometimes referred to as frequency modulation
(FM) screening because the spacing between dots and the number
(frequency) of dots is varied to produce different shades and tones;
while the size (amplitude) of the dots is held constant.
