Human Variables
Color sensitivity differs between individuals and within a single
individual, depending on variables such as the portion of the retina
on which the image falls. To compensate for these differences, the
CIE defined a standard observer, which represents the average
human color vision. This standard is used when computing CIE color
values.
Color Measuring
To ensure consistency, colors must be matched to a common
standard such as the SWOP (Specifications for Webb Offset
Printing). The goal of this process is to linearize the output device's
