Using the Medisystems MasterGuard
Anti-Stick Needle Protector
Caution: MasterGuard® anti-stick needle protector engages
into a locked position only if you hold it in place while removing the
apheresis needle by pulling the tubing. It will not engage if you use
the wings of the needle or the body of MasterGuard to remove the
needle.
After use, visually confirm that MasterGuard has locked over the
needle and the wings are securely held behind the locking prongs.
Insertion of the Apheresis Needle Set with MasterGuard

Prepare the venipuncture site according to your standard operating
procedures.
2 Ensure you position the MasterGuard away from the wings so it
does not interfere with needle insertion.

Grasp the wings, remove the tip protector, and perform the
venipuncture.

Secure the needle tubing according to your standard operating
procedures.

Removal of the Apheresis Needle Set with MasterGuard
1 Remove the tape securing the needle tubing.

Prepare the dressing and place it over the venipuncture site
according to your standard operating procedures.

Ensure the curved finger hook on the MasterGuard points up. Slide
the MasterGuard forward until its lower jaw is under the wings.

Place your finger inside the finger hook. While maintaining
appropriate pressure on the venipuncture site, pull the tubing so
that the needle exits the donor's arm and slides into the
MasterGuard (see Figure 4-16).
