Operator Maintenance of the Spectra System

Warning: When handling extracorporeal blood circuits, take
adequate precautions to prevent the possible exposure to and
transmission of the hepatitis virus, human immunodeficiency
virus, and other infectious agents.
Caution: To prevent possible electrical hazard or potential
damage to the equipment, turn off the machine before cleaning.
Caution: Gambro BCT has validated the methods described in
this manual for cleaning and decontaminating the Spectra system.
Before using an alternative method, verify that it will not damage
the system.
Cleaning
Use a cloth and mild detergent to clean spills (blood, saline, etc.) from
the surface of the Spectra system. To clean the pump housings and
rotors, perform the following:
1
Grasp the top of the rotor, push it in, and twist it counterclockwise
to remove it from the housing.
2
Clean the housing and the bottom of the rotor.
3
Replace the rotor: Align the rotor with the housing, push the rotor
in, and turn it clockwise. You should hear a click when the rotor
locks into place.
4
Discard the cloth used to clean the system in an appropriate
biohazard disposal container.
