Seal Safe System Installation

Note: RF (radio frequency) is the frequency in which radio waves
can be transmitted, from about 10 kilocycles/second to about
300,000 megacycles/second.
The Seal Safe system mobile unit mounts to the attachment slide rail on
the Spectra system. The cutter/sealer head rests in a cradle on the mobile
unit (see Figure 15-3).

1
Slide the Seal Safe system mobile unit onto the rail on either side of
the Spectra system.
2
Connect the mobile unit power plug into the Seal Safe system
power receptacle on the Spectra system. Do not plug two units into
one machine. If you do this, neither unit will function.

3
Attach the RF interconnect cable: Attach one end to the
cutter/sealer head and the other end to the RF electronics enclosure.
Push the connectors together and rotate clockwise until locked.
4
Place the cutter/sealer head into the cradle on the mobile unit.

Seal Safe System Operation

The Seal Safe system generates an RF electrical field between the jaws of
the cutter/sealer head.
Moisture on the surface of the sealing head or the disposable tubing set
can cause an electrical arc between the jaws when power is applied. If this
happens, the sealing process automatically terminates.
Warning: To avoid the possibility of receiving a radio frequency
(RF) burn at the needle entry point, DO NOT activate the Seal Safe
system sealing head within 3 inches (8 cm) of the access or return
needle.
Warning: To avoid the possibility of receiving a radio frequency
(RF) burn, DO NOT place fingers within 1 inch (2.5 cm) of the
Seal Safe system sealing jaws while sealing.
Warning: To avoid the possibility of a severe burn, DO NOT
touch the metal section on the lever of the Seal Safe system.
Grasp the lever on the plastic-coated section only.
Warning: To avoid possible electric shock, DO NOT submerge
the Seal Safe system cutter/sealer head in any kind of liquid.
