General Maintenance
Changing pressure pod seals
Replace pressure pod seals monthly to maintain the peak performance of
the access and return pressure sensors. To replace a pressure pod seal,
perform the following:
1
Remove the old pressure pod seal with a hemostat, as shown in
Figure 10-2.

Disinfecting
Disinfect the surfaces of the Spectra system using a ¼% sodium
hypochlorite solution of 1 part commercial household bleach (5% to
6%) to 18 parts water.
Let the surfaces air dry.
Caution: Using a sodium hypochlorite solution stronger than
recommended can damage or discolor the system surfaces.
Disinfecting Sensors after a Blood Spill
1
Use a gauze sponge or cotton swab dampened with ¼% sodium
hypochlorite solution to disinfect the lens and surfaces of the
following sensors:
•
Inlet air detector
•
Return air detector
•
RBC detector
•
Fluid leak detector
•
Centrifuge pressure sensor
2
Use a gauze sponge or cotton swab dampened with distilled water to
wipe the the sodium hypochlorite solution residue from the sensor.
