Virtual Private LAN Service
When using the per service configurable TPID for a VPLS or EPIPE service (not for
v-VPLS services), there are the following known limitations:
This feature is only supported on v-VPLS, VPLS and EPIPE services and is not
supported on network ports.
182
It is not possible to drop dataplane traffic in case the TPID does not match the
service TPID (vlan-dot1q-etype). Instead, the following behavior applies:
on SDP: in case the ingress dataplane traffic TPID (Ethertype after the MPLS label)
does not match with the parameter vlan-vc-etype configured on the SDP, then the
traffic will be forwarded with an extra VLAN tag using the service TPID and with the
VLAN ID of the egress SAP
on SDP: in case the ingress traffic TPID does not match with the service TPID but
matches with the port TPID, then the traffic will be forwarded with an extra VLAN tag
using the service TPID and with the VLAN ID of the egress SAP
Dataplane packets egressing on a SAP will always use the service TPID. The port
TPID can not be applied, even in case the parameter use-vlan-dot1q-etype is not
configured on the port
This limitation does not apply to control plane traffic. in
Note —
case the ingress control plane traffic TPID does not match with
the service TPID, then it will still be dropped. Furthermore,
control plane packets egressing on a SAP will use the service
TPID or port TPID as normal, as follows:
if the parameter use-vlan-dot1q-etype is configured on the
port: use the service TPID
if the parameter use-vlan-dot1q-etype is disabled on the
port: use the port TPID
Control plane packets egressing on an SDP will use the
configured TPID, or the default of 0x8100.
In other words, to avoid a mismatch between the TPIDs of
dataplane and control plane traffic, you must enable the
parameter use-vlan-dot1q-etype on the port.
If well known TPID values such as 0x88a8 and 0x9100 are configured, then the
service TPID or SDP TPID can be changed without bringing down the SAP or
SDP. However, if other TPIDs are used, there will be service impact. Specifically,
when the system is configured with the maximum of 4 TPIDs, then attempts to
change the TPID value afterwards may not be successful and may result in a drop
in traffic. To avoid this, the operator should delete and recreate the SAP or SDP.
