Introduction

Planned maintenance

1. Disconnect the rigid engine coolant pipe

using tool 1860967000 to undo the con-

nector on the cylinder head; also undo the

bolt shown and position the pipe at the

2. Undo the bolts fixing the tappet cover and

remove it taking care to disconnect the oil

vapour recovery pipe and the bolt s h o w n -

in the inset fixing the timing belt cover to

the tappet cover. Then proceed

checking the tappet clearance.

3. Undo the bolts fixing the tappet cover,

disconnect the brackets connected to it

and remove it. Then proceed w i t h check-

ing the tappet clearance.

Checking tappet clearance and, if neces-

sary, adjusting

4. Rotate the camshaft so that the inlet and

exhaust valves are in the closed position.

With the engine cold, check the clearance

between the cam recess radius and the

tappet is within the recommended values

using a feeler gauge.
