The fuel injection-ignition control unit is connected functionally to the climate control system, as:
1. it receives the request to switch on the compressor and makes the necessary interventions (extra air);
2. it gives enablement to the switching on of the compressor through pin 4 1 , when the conditions en-
visaged by the strategies arise;
3. it receives information on the status of the four-stage pressure switch from pins 2 1 , 35 and 4 8 (for
cars w i t h three-stage pressure switch, only from pins 35 and 48) and carries out the relevant inter-
ventions (controls radiator fan).
As regards point 1, if the engine is idling, the control unit increases the flow rate of the air passing from
the idle actuator in advance of the switching on of the compressor, and vice versa it returns the actuator
to the normal position retarded in relation to the disconnection of the compressor.
As regards point 2, the control unit automatically controls the disconnection of the compressor:
- for a few seconds (time-lagged disconnection):
- when there is a high requirement for engine power (strong acceleration);
- on engine pickup;
- for as long as the following critical conditions remain:
- if the engine coolant temperature exceeds a particular threshold
- for an engine speed of below 750 rpm.
