SYMPTOM

Relay operates intermittently.

TEST PROCEDURES
GENERAL
The charger uses DC battery voltage through the on-board computer to close the charger relay that activates
the charger AC circuit. When the charger is operating properly, there is a 2 to 15 second delay after the DC
cord is plugged into the vehicle before the relay closes. This delay allows time for the DC plug to make a
secure connection with the receptacle before the AC circuit is activated and AC power is supplied to the pri-
mary coil of the transformer. When the relay closes an audible "click" can be heard, and then as power is sup-
plied, the transformer should hum and the ammeter should indicate the charge rate.
WARNING
• ALWAYS WEAR SAFETY GLASSES OR APPROVED EYE PROTECTION WHEN SERVICING THE
CHARGER.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
1)
Blown fuse on red lead from OBC.
2)
Defective charger relay.
1)
Diode failed.
2)
Loose internal fuse connection.
1)
Battery is wired in reverse polarity.
2)
DC cord is wired in reverse polarity.
3)
Both diodes failed.
1)
One diode failed.
2)
Transformer coil short-circuit failure.
3)
On-board computer malfunction.
1)
AC power supply was shut off.
2)
On-board computer malfunction.
3)
Batteries may be fully charged.
1)
On-board computer malfunction.
2)
Extremely discharged batteries or
cold temperature.
3)
Bad battery.
1)
AC cord is shorted.
2)
Failed transformer.
1)
AC power interrupted.
2)
On-board computer malfunction.
3)
Charger failure.
4)
16 hour time out.
