SELECT FILTER

5050/5100 User's Manual
This menu option allows the operator to select an interface filter
option. Multiple filters can be active. Three software loads: standard,
SCS, and IPDS (QMS and IGP is included in standard and SCS
loads). The maximum multiple filters is four. Hexdump has the
lowest selection priority.
Depending on the software that is loaded, the printer can process
QMS, IGP, Coax/Twinax SCS and Coax/Twinax IPDS data. All
versions of software can process Hex Passtrough data. All versions of
software can also execute Hex Dump mode, a diagnostic mode that
prints the received data as hex character pairs. Enabling a Filter
causes received data to be examined by that processor. For example,
enabling the QMS Filter causes the received data to go through the
QMS processor. If the QMS Filter is not enabled, the received data is
not examined by the QMS processor and any QMS commands in the
data will be print as text and not execute the QMS functionality.
Combinations of filters allows debugging received data and debugging
problems with the printer's processing of the received data. The
following 4 examples describe the printer's behavior with some of the
filter selections:
Example 1: Enabling the Hex Dump Filter causes the printer to print
a hex dump of the data as it is received from the host. If the received
data is a coax or twinax, the dump is EBCDIC hex. Otherwise, it is
ASCII hex.
Example 2: Disabling the QMS Filter, will cause the printer to print
QMS commands as normal text without the printer taking action on
QMS commands received.
Example 3: Enabling the Hex Dump Filter and QMS simultaneously,
will cause the printer to print a hex dump of the output of the QMS
processor.
Example 4: Enabling the Hex Dump Filter and SCS simultaneously,
will cause the printer to print a hex dump of the output of the SCS
processor.
