IP REDIRECTS

ip redirects
Overview
This command enables ICMP redirects for an interface.
Use the no variant of this command to disable the sending of ICMP redirects for an
interface.
This command enables ICMP redirects for a device.
Use the no variant of this command to disable the sending of ICMP redirects for a
device.
Syntax
ip redirects
no ip redirects
Default
ICMP redirects are disabled by default.
Mode
Global Configuration, Interface Configuration or Interface Configuration for a
VLAN interface.
Usage
ICMP redirect messages are used to notify hosts that a better route is available to a
destination. ICMP redirects are used when a packet is routed into the device on the
same interface that the packet is routed out of the device. ICMP redirects are also
used when the subnet or network of the source address is on the same subnet or
network as the next-hop address for a packet.
Use the ip redirects command to allow the sending of ICMP redirects whenever
the device receives a packet that is routed on the same interface that the packet
was sent on.
Use the no variant of this command to disallow the sending of ICMP redirects
whenever the device receives a packet that is routed on the same interface that the
packet was sent on.
