This chapter explains the operation of input capture.
11.1 Overview of Input Capture
Input capture is composed of one 16-bit free-run timer and four 16-bit input captures.
n Configuration
• Input capture (× 4)
The input capture is composed of the capture register and control register corresponding to four
independent external input pins. When any edge of the signal input from the external input pin is detected,
the value of the 16-bit free-run timer can be held in the capture register and an interrupt can be generated
simultaneously.
– The effective edge of the external input signal can be selected: Rising, falling, and both edges
– Four input captures can be operated independently.
– An interrupt can be generated at the effective edge of the external input signal.
• 16-bit free-run timer (× 1)
The 16-bit free-run timer is composed of a 16-bit up counter, control register, 16-bit comapare clear
register, and prescaler. The output value of this counter is used as the base time (base timer) of the input
capture.
– A clock for counting can be selected from eight clocks.
φ: Machine clock internal clocks eight types (φ, φ/2, φ/4, φ/8, φ/16, φ/32, φ/64, φ/128)
– An interrupt can be generated by an overflow of the counter value and compare match with compare
clear register (compare match needs mode setting).
– The counter value can be initialized to 0000
compare clear register.
