Additional Conferencing
Information

Standard Definition (SD)

Various conferencing modes and video feature require additional
settings, such as system flag setting, conference parameters and other
settings. These additional settings, and additional, in depth explanation of
these features are described in the following sections.
Standard Definition (SD) is a high quality video protocol which uses the
H.264 video algorithm. It enables HD compliant endpoints to connect to
conferences at resolutions of 720X576 for PAL systems and 720X480 for
NTSC systems. Bit rates for SD range from 256Kbps to 2Mbps.
The conference can be set to operate in one of two SD modes:
SD15 – SD resolution at 15 frames per second
SD30 – SD resolution at 30 frames per second
The video resolution is also defined by the Quality settings:
Motion, when selected, results in higher frame rate without increased
resolution.
Sharpness, when selected, sends higher video resolution and
requires more system resources.
The combination of frame rate and resolution affects the number of ports
required on the MCU to support the call. For more information about
Video Quality vs Port Usage, see Table 6-1 on page 6-2.
System resources (ports) are allocated according to endpoint capability
and are optimized by allocating SD resources only to endpoints capable of
receiving SD resolution.
