Detecting PDs

Enabling the PSE to Detect Nonstandard PDs

There are standard PDs and nonstandard PDs. Usually, the PSE can detect only standard PDs and
supply power to them. The PSE can detect nonstandard PDs and supply power to them only after the
PSE is enabled to detect nonstandard PDs.
Follow these steps to enable the PSE to detect nonstandard PDs:
To do...
Enter system view
Enable the PSE to detect
nonstandard PDs

Configuring the PoE Power

Configuring the Maximum PoE Power

The maximum PoE power refers to the maximum power that the device can provide to all PSEs.
The maximum PoE power is determined by the specifications of PoE power supply and user
configuration through command lines.
Specifications of PoE power supply: PSEs are powered by PoE power supply. The PoE power
supply of a device has its maximum output power (assuming the value is M1), which is the
hardware factor determining the maximum PoE power.
User configuration through command lines: PoE power supply has self-protection mechanism,
with which hardware protection measures will be taken (for example, stopping power supply to all
PSEs) in case of PoE power overload. To avoid possible hardware protection, the device allows
you to configure a maximum PoE power (assuming the value is M2, which should be lower than
M1). When the PoE power supply is to reach the overload state before hardware protection occurs,
the system takes software protection measures (for example, disabling PoE of PSE or shutting
down the power supply to PSE with a specific priority).
The actually effective maximum PoE power is the smaller one between M1 and M2, that is
min(M1,M2).
When the maximum PoE power is changed, the system will re-allocate power according to power
supply priority of PSEs. A PSE with a higher priority gets power supply first. For the PSEs with the
same priority, the one with smaller PSE ID takes precedence.
Follow these steps to configure the maximum PoE power:
To do...
Enter system view
Configure the maximum PoE
power
Use the command...
system-view
poe legacy enable pse pse-id
Use the command...
system-view
poe power max-value
max-power
1-6
Remarks
Required
By default, the PSE can
detect standard PDs rather
than non standard PDs.
Remarks
Optional
The default maximum PoE
power is 6720.
