MAINTENANCE
RADIATOR COOLANT
Check
the
coolant level of
the reserve
tank with the
, - - - - - - - - - - - - r - - - - - - ,
engine
running
at normal operating
temperature.
UPPER
lEVEL LINE
The
level should be
between
the
·
UPPER"
and
"LOWER"
level Jines with the vehicle
upright
on a
level
surface.
If the
level
is
low,
remove
the
reserve
tank
cap,
and
fill the
lank
to
the
"UPPER"
level line
with a
1:1
mix-
ture of distilled water and
antifreeze
(coolant
prepa-
ration:
page
6-5).
RECOMMENDED
ANTIFREEZE:
Pro Honda HP
coolant
or an
equivalent
high
qual-
ity ethylene
glycol
antifreeze
containing
silicate-
fre
e
corrosion
inhibitors

NOTICE
I
Using coo/ant
with
silica
te
corrosion inhibitors may
cause premature
wear
of
water
pump seals
or
blockage of radiator passages.
Using tap water
may
cause engine damage.

to
see if there are
any
coolant
leaks
when
the

coolant level decreases very rapidly.
If reserve
tank
becomes completely
empty,
there is
a possibitity of
air
getting into
the
cooling
system.
Be
sure to remove aU
air
from
the cooling
system
(page
6-6J.

Remove
the front fender
(page 2-11).
Check
for
any
coolant leakage from
the
water pump,
wate
r
hoses
(radiato
r
and by-pass
hoses) and
hose
joints.
Check
the
water hoses
for
cracks
or
deterioration
and replace
if
necessary.
Check that
aU
hose
clamps are
tight.
