IGNITION SYSTEM INSPECTION
Avoid touching
the
spark
plug
or
tester probes
to prevent
elec-
mc shock
•
If there is no spark at the plug, check all connec-
tions for loose or poor
con
tact before measu ring
the peak voltage.
•
Use the
recommended
digital multi meter or a
commercially available
digital
multi meter with
an impedance of
10
MaDeV
minimum.
•
The
display
value
differs depending upon
the
internal impedance of the multi
meter.

NOTE:
•
Check all system connections before this inspec-
tion. Poor connected connectors can
ca
use
incor-
rect readings.
•
Check the
cylinder compression
and check
that
the spark plug is installed correctly
in
the cylin-
der head.
Disconnect the spark plug cap from the spark plug
(page
3-9).
Connect a known-good spark plug to the spark plug
cap and ground
the
spark plug to the cylinder head
as
done
in a spark
test.

switch to the RUN.
Shift the
transmission
into neutral.
Crank the engi ne with the starter motor and read
the ignition coil primary peak
voltage.
