NEW VEHICLE OPERATION (RUNNING-IN)

Vehicle reliability and economic feasibility as well
as its life duration depend upon parts and aggregates run-
ning-in during new vehicle operation – the first 1000 km
of the race.
The following requirements should be observed
during running in:
- vehicle motion at maximum speed should be avoid-
ed. Do not exceed ¾ of crankshaft rated speed in each gear;
- in mechanical gear box: shift the gears in due
time; do not gear down to brake the vehicle;
- prevent vehicle operation in hard road conditions.

MAIN RULES OF OPERATION

1. During vehicle operation, use service materials
recommended by manufacturer (see Appendices 2, 3).
2. Before start of operation turn the power supply
(storage batteries) ON in electrical equipment system of the
vehicle, having pressed the button of remote storage battery
switch. Click the button briefly, for no more than 2 sec.
3. Start vehicle driving after warming up of engine
cooling liquid till temperature of not less than 40 °С.
4. Do not start driving the vehicle till the light of
brake system failure pilot lamp goes out and the buzzer
stops humming, demonstrating that the brake system is
filled in with air.
5. During cold period of time, after engine start, be-
fore vehicle movement, it is necessary to warm up oil in steer-
ing system (see Section 5 «Vehicle operation in cold season»).
It is prohibited to rotate the steering wheel, before
the oil in the steering system is warmed up!
6. For mechanical gear box when starting the vehi-
cle it is always necessary to engage the first gear. Change
the gears softly, with clutch surely released.
It is recommended to keep the gear shifter in the
neutral position for a short period of time. Don't throw
into the gear sharply when you feel resistance to shifter
moving. Smoothly increase pressure on the lever till the
synchronizer full engagement.
If you fail to engage the gear at vehicle start, once
again release the clutch and then again throw into gear.
7. When in motion, the crankshaft speed is to be
controlled by tachometer. Keep it in mind that the maxi-
mum torque (maximum tractive effort) of the engine is
achieved at crankshaft speed lower than the rated one (see
section 2 «Operating parameters»).
Do not exceed the maximum crankshaft speed.
Choose the driving speed on the route with due considera-
tion of the most economical engine operation mode.
8. Monitor the state of all vehicle systems using
measurement instruments and messages on instrument
cluster display. Observe their indications and eliminate
troubles in proper time.
9. Watch out for the air cleaner clogging up signal-
ing system: if air cleaner clogging up pilot lamp comes
ON (lamp is on instrument panel), be sure to change the
filter element.
