1 General Safety Instructions Intarder

!
DANGER !
Make cautious use of the Intarder:
Icy roads, rainy road surfaces, unladen vehicle, tractor
operation only.
RISK OF ACCIDENT!
Your vehicle may start skidding.
In the case of vehicles without ABS equipment,
increased skidding danger arises which may be
caused by incorrect Intarder operation. In order to
avoid such uncontrolled behavior, please switch off
the Intarder main switch.
• If your vehicle is equipped with an ABS or EBS brake
system, then, the Intarder braking process is
interrupted as long as the ABS/EBS system is active.
Subsequently, the operating mode last engaged with the
Intarder becomes active again.

• Intarder use does not impact the operation of the
manual transmission.
Intarder brake power remains unaltered with
depressed clutch pedal (for gear change).
• If your vehicle is equipped with an engine brake, then
these can be activated in addition to the Intarder.
CAUTION
Prior to and during downhill travel, you have to ensure that
the engine speed does not fall below n = 1600 rpm. Depress
the clutch pedal only briefly for a gear change. Avoid
coasting downhill or driving downhill with depressed clutch
pedal because adequate cooling of the engine cooling water
is then not ensured.
• Please shift down one gear, if needed, in order to increase
the speed and thus the water pump and fan performance.
If, nevertheless, the max. cooling water temperature is
attained, then the Intarder electronics are managing the
Intarder automatically and reduce the brake torque to the
highest still admissible level (Intarder re-setting).
• The reduced braking performance must be considered
by means of the corresponding driving style (selection
of gear, engine brake, or service brake).
