Connect System Components

Connect the base station modules and components as listed below. Some of these
connections may have already been made. Remember that if you are using the GSM
modem as your data link, then the radio components are not used. Likewise, if you are
using a radio, then the Communication Module is not used, but remember to use the
V-Module to protect the Communication Module interface. Check that all modules and
connections are seated properly. Refer to the previous chapter on how to connect
these components.

Mount the Base System

Insert the tribrach adapter into the center hole of the HI Measurement Plate. Screw
the HI Measurement Plate/tribrach adapter assembly to the bottom of the GPS
Receiver Module. Carefully set the GPS Receiver Module with the attached
components into the top of the tribrach. While placing the module into the tribrach,
take care not to jar the tripod out of alignment in any way. You may find it more
convenient to temporarily disconnect the external power cable and the radio cable (if
used) from the module. Be sure to reconnect them when you are finished.

Measure Instrument Height (HI) of GPS Antenna

Remember the measurements of satellite data are made at the center (horizontally
and vertically) of the GPS antenna. The HI allows the computed position of the antena
center to be transferred to the ground point. It is critical that the HI of the antenna
above the monument is measured accurately. A tool to measure the HI is included
with the base system (Figure 4.4). Measure from the survey point to the edge of the HI
Measutement Plate.
