Connecting System Hardware
If you have been reading this document sequentially, you should now have a basic
understanding of the modules included with a Z-Max System for post-processing.
Important information from Chapter 2 includes; the name of each module, what it
looks like and its basic function. In Chapter 3, information will be provided about how
the modules fit together and how they relate to each other. In order for the different
components to function as a system, they must communicate and they must be
powered. This requires that the modules be connected correctly. In the following
sections, we will examine the connectivity of the Z-Max modules. Below is a list of
module connections for a Z-Max post-processed survey system.

GPS Receiver - GPS Antenna Module

The GPS Receiver Module requires that a GPS Antenna Module be connected in
order to measure and record the data being transmitted by the satellites. The GPS
Antenna Module connects directly to the GPS Receiver Module and does not require
any cables.
At the top of the GPS Receiver Module is an antenna receptacle. The base of the
GPS Antenna Module is circular except for a flattened area. To connect the GPS
Antenna Module, just insert the antenna base into the receptacle at the top of the
GPS Receiver Module (Figure 3.1). Make sure the base of the antenna module is
oriented so that the flattened area is lined up with the flattened area of the receptacle,
and the module will push easily into place. Once in place, twist the threaded collar on
the Antenna module until the assembly is securely locked in place.
The GPS antenna can be connected to the receiver at any time before or after the
receiver is powered on. Make sure the threaded collar turns easily when tightened
and is not cross-threaded.
