Handheld Computer/Field Application Software

The handheld computer and the field application software are used to interface with
and control the GPS receivers in the field. The field application software and field
computer are primarily used with the rover receiver during kinematic, RTK and code-
phase differential surveys. Most users will use a handheld computer and graphical
application software to execute intensive real-time operations such as real-time
navigation (stake-out). The standard handheld computer supplied with the Z-Max
system is designed to operate with Bluetooth short range wireless technology, so no
cable is required between the handheld computer and the receiver. The operator can
either communicate with the receiver from up to 10 meters away without cables, or
may choose to use a cable.
FAST Terminal
The standard handheld computer used by the Z-Max Survey system is the FAST
Terminal (Figure 2.16).
