Hardware Connectivity
If you have been reading this document sequentially, you should now have a basic
understanding of the modules included with a Z-Max system for RTK surveying. In this
chapter, information will be provided about how the modules fit together and how they
relate to each other. In order for the different components to function as a system,
they must communicate and they must be powered. This requires that the modules be
connected correctly. In the following sections, we will examine the connectivity of the
Z-Max modules.
Since the RTK base system and the rover system have different connectivity
requirements, they will be presented separately. In addition, the rover system is
available in two configurations, a pole-mounted configuration and a backpack
configuration. Each of these configurations will be discussed separately. Lastly,
remember that the Z-Max RTK system comes with a choice of data links and the data
link used will have a big effect on the system configuration. Each type of data link will
also be discussed separately where appropriate.

RTK Base System

The fundamental components of the RTK base system are the receiver, the GPS
antenna, and the wireless data link. As discussed in chapter 2, the data link can be a
radio or a cellular link. If a radio is used as the data link, a external radio with a
transmitter is required at the base station. If a cellular modem is used as the data link,
the integrated modem and antenna in the Communication Module are used.
Below is a list of all connections required to make the RTK base system function.

GPS Receiver - Receiver Power System

Supplying power to the Z-Max system can be accomplished by using the Power
Module or by connecting a DC power source (10-28V) to the external power port.
