offers a wide range of functionality for performing RTK applications including
topography, stakeout, boundary and as-built surveys. FAST Survey is also a full
functioned total station controller including COGO, graphical displays of points
and locations. FAST Survey also has the ability to monitor data quality storage
and coordinate system management. The software guides you through all steps
required to configure and execute an RTK survey with an interface that is
straightforward and easy to master.

Office Software

Although RTK surveys yield precision results in real-time, office software can still play
a key roll in the preparation and finalization of survey jobs. GPS surveying typically
requires office software to perform preparation tasks, including site reconnaissance,
observation session planning and feature definition. Defining the attributes of real-
time data is a critical function of field work. Feature codes or feature libraries are often
created beforehand in an office environment. Office software also facilitates smooth
RTK preparation by enabling file transfers between the PC and the handheld device.
Office software can also play a pivotal role after RTK data is collected and returned
from the field. Office software is useful for preparing GPS stakeout files and then for
QA analysis of the collected data. Depending on the sophistication of the package,
office software can generate graphical mapping products, text reports and export data
into a format that assists integration into other systems. In some cases, GPS
measurements collected in post-processed mode are used in conjunction with RTK.
Thales Navigation GNSS Studio
The standard office software package for the Z-Max system is Thales
Navigation's GNSS Studio. GNSS Studio includes all functionality required to
support processing, manipulation and output of data collected using the Z-Max
RTK and post-processed surveying system. Using GNSS Studio, you can plan
field operations, prepare feature codes or stakeout files prior to the field work,
transfer data between the office computer and field devices, process collected
data, and create your choice of detail-rich maps and reports. This is all
accomplished through a user interface which is a mix of simplicity and power.
In addition to data transfers between devices using a cable, the software contains
the functionality to download data using the Bluetooth wireless module in the Z-
Max GPS Receiver Module, so data can be downloaded without cables.
This concludes the description of individual hardware and software modules which
make up the Z-Max System for RTK surveys. Next, we will examine how the individual
Z-Max hardware and software modules fit together to build a powerful system for real-
time navigation and data collection.
