Troubleshooting
If you followed all the steps to prepare the Z-Max System to perform a survey and the
system is not working, this section will provide a resource to help determine the cause
of the problem. Problems usually fall into one of two categories, something was
forgotten or a component was not installed properly. In either case, the problem is
normally remedied by either identifying the component of the system causing the
problem and re-executing the steps to set up this component, or starting over with the
setup process. Occasionally, components will fail, but this is rare because each part of
the system that contains electronic components is factory tested prior to shipment.
In this section, the goal is to provide guidance in determining the cause of a problem
with the system. Commonly encountered effects are listed below. Probable causes of
the effect are presented along with a remedy. Barring a component failure, the
remedies presented in this troubleshooting section should resolve any problems
encountered in preparing the Z-Max System to perform a static or kinematic data
collection.
If the steps outlined in this troubleshooting section fail to get you up and running, there
is a chance that a component in your system has failed. In case of such an event,
contact your local Thales Navigation dealer or Thales Navigation Technical Support
for assistance. Explain the steps you have taken to attempt to remedy the problem.
They will need certain information about your Z-Max including product serial number,
and receiver firmware options to help identify and solve the issue. If the problem is
judged to be a hardware issue, they will arrange to have the component(s) returned
for repair or replacement.
NOTE: When contacting Technical Support be prepared to provide the following information:
product name, product serial number, and receiver firmware options.
You will be asked to utilize either the front panel display of the GPS receiver or the
field application software running on the handheld data collector to view status
information or set certain parameters. Details on how to use the display or application
software to perform these tasks will not be outlined in this section. Refer to
Chapter 4 - Operations or the field application software manual for these details.
