274 Chapter 21 Glossary
Definition
A device that measures the density and dot size of
ink to make certain they are consistent throughout
the run. If they are not consistent, it adjusts the
press to compensate for deviation.
The conveyor that receives paper from the
perfector and transfers it to the grippers in duplex
printing.
A rotor that transfers paper from the intermediate
rotor to the exit tray or sample tray.
The computerized representation of a picture or
graphic.
The liquid carrier of the pigment.
Impression cylinder, the cylinder of a printing press
which brings the paper into contact with the
printing plate or blanket cylinder.
A rotor that transfers paper from the perfector to
the exit rotor.
The drum around which the blanket is wrapped. It
transfers the image from the PIP to the substrate.
The entire publication to be printed.
The acronym for light amplification by stimulated
emission by radiation. The laser is an intense light
beam with a very narrow band width that can
produce images by electronic impulses. It makes
possible imaging by remote control from
computers or facsimile transmissions.
A set of values in tabular form for input or output
relationships. Such tables are most often
associated with color calibration issues and
determining how a color system translates from
one color space to another.
A non-inked area of the printed sheet.
