First pressure adjustment

Overview

When the PIP drum or ITM drum pressure is adjusted in the press, you achieve full
transfer of both the highlights (small dots) and the solids (100 percent dots). Adjust the
pressure between the PIP and ITM drums on the front and rear controls using the First
Transfer Calibration. To access the First Transfer Calibration, on the control panel click the
Adjustments menu, and then select First Transfer.
The First Transfer Calibration uses a special job (Figure 9-20). The job consists of nine
sheets with two separations each. Each sheet is numbered one through nine. The PIP to
ITM pressure varies from one sheet to the next. The press prints the first sheet with
minimum pressure and the ninth sheet with maximum pressure.
The job image consists of two columns of six triangles each. One column is on the left
side of the sheet and the other is on the right side. The system makes identical transfer
pressure adjustments to each drum side.
Identify the sheet number on which at least three triangles are shown in a column. You
should count triangle fragments. You may see three triangles on a different sheet for the
left (front) and right (rear) triangle column. This is not important because the First Transfer
Calibration calibrates the PIP to ITM pressure for each side separately.
